I have wanted to make yoghurt from scratch before, but I kept putting it off because I didn't think I had enough time. Then I found these instructions and it looked simple so I thought I'd give it a go. It didn't take much time at all, it was simple and the yoghurt tasted lovely.
I used this Jalna yoghurt as my starter. This is the yoghurt I had been using, but I didn't like that it comes in plastic, and I really wanted to make it myself. The yoghurt I made also tasted nicer than the Jalna, it is more mild in taste. The home made version is also a lot cheaper. From now on I will definitely be making my own yoghurt. I also used organic milk which means my yoghurt is organic.
The finished product served over homemade granola and blueberries, my favorite breakfast. I have milk on it too. The granola recipe is from here.
julie, your yogurt looks wonderful and THICK! nice job! :)

DeleteThanks Julie for the great links it's been a while since I've made yogurt I might have to give it a try again. Heather's workshop is great isn't it, I'm really enjoying it and this week there's lots of yummy recipes to try. Have a lovely day.

DeleteI used to make my own yogurt in my crockpot but haven't done so at all this year. I found that organic milk did not work - it would never set properly. Strange. I only tried one brand, though, available locally. Should start up again.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting Kika. I used a thermometer and made sure it was the correct temp. Let me know how you go.
ReplyDeleteI've found that it's best to use fresh starter every 4 or 5 batches, and that it's nice to use the brand whose taste I like. I do use raw, organic milk faithfully with no problems.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this tip Corene and thank you for visiting my blog. xxoo
